The Blessing of the Fleet is a religious celebration of Maryland's Birthplace located at historic St. Clement's Island.  October 1 starts the oyster harvesting season in Maryland and to celebrate this , the first weekend in October each year, there is an annual blessing of the boats, or fleet.  The Mechanicsville Optimist club sells their amazing crab soup and fried oysters to celebrate during the Blessing of the Fleet!
